Administration Report 2009-10
The Administration Officer’s Report. 2009-10
On a positive note we were awarded The Duke of Yorkshire’s Community Initiative Award in 2009. All aspects of our Charity work were assessed and our accounts & statistics of people being supported closely scrutinised. We were judged against other Charities in the Yorkshire region and we were selected based on the quality and range of services provided for the local community.
Our Day Care attendance was reduced due to the severe weather in December 2009 and January 2010. The snow fall and ice made it too risky to try to transport the frail elderly and disabled, as well as the risk to volunteers trying to brave the conditions driving on untreated roads and walking on untreated pavements.
Our overall numbers for the year was also reduced due to the number of members we lost, who moved away or who moved into Care Homes. We made great efforts to increase numbers in the usual ways and our best source for new referrals continued to be from the Social Services Departments of the local Councils, (who are usually the first contact when Day Care is needed.) Self, and referrals from families were also received.)
Changes being made by The East Riding of Yorkshire Council has reduced the number of new members being referred by them, and many no longer qualify for Day Care. (As a result the grant was reduced)
We made numerous applications for grant aid and were awarded £5,500 by The National Lottery for the development of the land behind our Centre into a Sensory Garden. The ERYC Carers Support Group also donated £500 towards this project. Landscape Gardeners transformed the area, removed dead trees, laid new paths, added a water feature and large Gazebo and seating etc. “A most positive addition to our centre.”
Our aims and objectives continued to be focussed on providing the best possible services and to support as many Elderly people as possible.
